This was it. The horrible realization that comes to any man when he's cornered. There was no way out and death was the only escape from this atrocity.
Jeff could feel the sinking pit of despair in his stomach and it only grew to suck him into a spiral of constant fear or dread. He ran one of his long-fingered hands through his short black hair while he waited for the inevitable. In front of him stood, or slouched, hundreds of other people. No. Not people. People didn't eat others out of the blue or rise from the dead. These were something that were a bit harder to kill. These were zombies!
If there was a way out of this little cornered alley, Jeff didn't see it and assumed it was already too late anyways. Each shambling step brought them closer to Jeff and his heart sank even more. He was still a young age, he thought. To die at thirty-two was too soon for him, considering he still had things in life he wanted to do. Sky-diving, world-traveling, having his own family. He didn't want to die like this, being torn open without a moment's hesitation and devoured like he was nothing more than an apple.
